This means that you can only buy, secure or purchase workers compensation coverage from their designated state organization or department. In Ohio you'll find it's the BWC, or Bureau of Workers Compensation, that is the state organization where you have to buy coverage. To buy workers compensation insurance for Ohio you will need to complete and submit an application for coverage directly to the BWC. Here's how to do it.


Information You Will Need to Complete the Application:

When making an application for coverage to the BWC you will be asked by them to provide certain information about your business and it's organization. We've made this short list of some of the basic information you will need to have on hand before you can complete the application to the BWC. So before you begin completing their application, whether on line or on paper, have these items ready to use:
  • Your legal business name. That would be your Corporate, LLC, Sole Proprietor, Partnership or other legal name in which your business is known.
  • Your federal ID or social security number.
  • Legal form of business.
  • Information as to the election of coverage.
  • Are there other Ohio workers compensation policies that are or have been associated with your business.
  • A description of your primary business operations including services offered, products and methods used in delivering these to your customers.
  • A projected eight month payroll estimate.
  • The names, addresses and social security numbers of all owners and officers of the business.
