NAICS - North American Industry Classification System
The North American Industry Classification System (abbreviated 'NAICS') is a system of classifying industry segments by a (6) six-digit code. Established in the 1997 as a response to the increased economic influence of Canada and Mexico. NAICS codes are much more detailed in their descriptive data than the previously used SIC codes.

NAICS industries, unlike SIC Classifications, utilize a (6) six-digit code system. This method of coding allows for a larger number of industry sectors as identified by NAICS.
